Speaking Skills: Christmas with Dr. Seuss (and The Grinch)

You probably know the story of The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, but have you ever looked at the original poem?

The Grinch started life in 1955 in a poem “The Hoobab and The Grinch” before he jumped into a picture book and then a film and now a musical! This Christmas we are going back to where it all began with a look at Dr Seuss’ original poem and the story that got kids soooo excited they kept coming back for more.

Develop your skills in poetry, reading aloud and storytelling as you discover the magic of Dr Seuss and his fabulous poem.

Parents, this workshop teaches students about rhyme, rhythm and narrative poems through a study of Dr Seuss’ well-known story of The Grinch. Students will learn why Dr Seuss has become such an admired poet, why the stories get stuck in our heads, and how to read rhyming stories aloud without getting tied in knots. Students will learn all about reading poetry in an animated and engaging way. We encourage current students to join this Christmas themed poetry exploration and also welcome newbies who might discover a love of poetry by looking at an author they already know.
